Used Grom’s go for the same amount of money as brand-new ones so it seems like a no-brainer? Talk me out of it Oppo
Oh and then there’s this, which makes the Grom sound pricey. I could definitely use another European luxury car, right? Right?! Hey RPM, wanna buy this so I don’t have to?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And yes, the rainy season means that all Seattleites increase their Craigslist car shopping by 200%.

Current Grom owner. I’ve even been ticketed on it. AMA

Can you park it anywhere? Even in downtown areas? Are you ever worried about getting parking tickets? What about someone just picking it up and putting it in their truck?
Any reason to spend the extra Benjamin's for the ABS version?

You shouldn’t buy a Grom!
You should buy a Monkey

Ohhhhh that's right. Isn't this new for this year? I would happily own both but I think(?) I'd rather start with a Grom

2 grand is “fuck it” territory — except here. That car will kill you. Think about how much you spent in the first month on your 2k Volvo — now make it a 17-year old German V8 luxury sedan. Good luck.

Not sure where you are located, but around here they sit on OfferUp for months without selling.

I mean it’s just a Grom with retro styling

Depends on the parking authority in your area, but I’ve parked mine next to a bike rack, next to a dumpster etc... and never had a problem. I ride it into my office building when it’s raining.
I’ve managed to get mine in my Ranger by myself. I had to lift one end then the other and I nearly injured my back doing it, but I did it. Two people could actually “toss” it into the back of a truck.
I can’t see a reason for abs on this bike. I’ve been fine even in panic stop situations.
They are absolutely endless fun in the city or on tight suburban back roads. Once you’re out on wider faster roads, it feels tiny and slow. If you’re at all thinking you want to “get out and ride”, get a real bike. If you’re zipping around the city, beach, backroads etc... it’s perfect. It’s size is super convenient.

I park mine everywhere in portland, bike racks included. Never been ticketed.

Illegal pass. Some bozo in a wrangler in front of me was all up in his phone, going slow and swerving all over when I was on the way to brunch one Sunday morning . So I made the pass over the double yellows down a long straight section. Obviously it took me a while to get past him, and I met eyes with a cop on the left side of the road, haha. He wrote me a ticket. I went to court to plead it down to just a fine (no points). They dropped it all together and gave me my money back.

Problem is, right now they are unobtanium and selling for over msrp (I’ve tried to even find one to LOOK at in person for months)

Grom? Can't go wrong. In that color? GIB NOW!

My Costco store has had a Grom on display near the exit for months now and every time I walk past it I tell my wife I want one. She laughs. I also laugh at the thought of driving that thing around town and the comedic scene it would undoubtedly create.

To be fair, mine was less and I didn’t put all that much into it. Just a cooling system.

Love a story with a happy ending. The locking eyes was probably pretty funny. “It was at this moment he knew ... ”
Unfortunately, there’s no way I could feel safe driving to work on such a small bike so I’ve thought about picking one up and only using it on back roads. But then I just put the idea off altogether.

That color is the main reason why I'd rather buy new.

Have you ridden a G rom yet? If not I’ve got to throw you the key’s some time for some city shenanigans. T he stuff you can get away with right in front of npcs is insane. Burnouts on a street triple in downtown? Dangerous! Call the police!!! Burnouts on a G rom in downtown? J ust laughs and smiles.

“Unfortunately, there’s no way I could feel safe driving to work on such a small bike”
Yea, I have to agree on this. I didn’t stop but cut waaaaay back on riding it to work after my daughter was born in June. You just can’t get out of the way if you need to.
Now that it’s only for fun. I haven’t ridden it nearly as much. Also, with another car on the way I’m considering selling it to one of my buddies who lives in the city.

Why anyone would spend $3500 on a 125cc bike is beyond me.......
I found these bikes in a 2 minute search on my local craigslist.....
For $1000 cheaper you can find a used Honda 650 enduro ....
For $500 cheaper, a low mileage KLR
2000 BMW R1150GS.. for $3500
$3000 for a classic 600cc Transalp (this is a SMOKING
deal btw)
*OR*
drop $3500 on a the two-wheeled equivalent of a clown car....
To each his own, but if you’re looking for a fun, economical way to boogie around town, why wouldn’t you just get a regular motorcycle?
![]() 12/11/2018 at 17:12 |

Once the car arrives, you probably won’t even look at the Grom anymore!

Yea between it, the Grom, and the M3, I have to many “sunny day” mobiles

Why do I have an erection?
![]() 12/11/2018 at 17:20 |

Yes, but I wouldn’t say it’s easy . You have to clutch them up, I preload the front spring and yank up as well. Certainly not as easy as it is on something with a ton of torque where you can just rip the throttle.

Have you ever owned a motorcycle? Because if not, welcome to the N+1 club! I’ve ridden my neighbour’s Grom and it’s hilariously fun. The payments are only $80/mo too. It’s basically a street legal pocket bike with all the smiles that go along with it. And the aftermarket for the things is bonkers.
If money were no object I’d love to buy a Grom or a Monkey, but because money is an object, Craigslist!

been there, talked about that. essentially, the grom is the miata of motos, but it’s very small and too underpowered for highway use. If you’re circa 200lbs give or take, don’t expect it to reliably hold +45mph
![]() 12/11/2018 at 17:37 |

Honestly that’s the biggest thing keeping me from buying a new Grom, too. I’ve ridden my neighbour’s Grom and it’s hilariously fun. The payments are only $ 80/mo too. But I have a hard time justifying the cost when the same coin can buy me several vintage bikes. Shoot, out of the five bikes I own together I haven’t spent much more than $2,500 for them.
![]() 12/11/2018 at 17:44 |

Right?? I built up my cagiva for under $4k.... and you wanna talk about a hoot around town... or over the mountains, across the desert etc etc...

There are three airmen that ride them around the base where I work. One of them is a tall/built guy which makes it comical.

I am buying one in the next few years. My first mod will be some speakers so I can blast the beach boys’ song “Little Honda” at full blast during the summer.

I still think I'll end up buying one

It’ll take a 210lb rider to 60 no problem. Just.. not uphill.
